The America's Cup Challenge |

Southern Ropes is the official supplier of all ropes and braids to the Shosholoza team participating in the America's Cup challenge. We are also continuously busy on R&D with the team for new hi tech braids in PBO, LCP and combination fibres. Shosholoza is built with one aim in mind - to win the 2007 America's Cup. She is a true America's Cup boat and a true challenger for the title in every sense. She was designed by a group of South African engineers and built by a South African shipyard.
Leading South African universities and other educational institutions will also be making their testing and research facilities available to the project. She will mount a serious challenge for the title there will be no doubt. She boasts a sleek 25-metre length and an impressive 35-metre mast height. She is sophisticated, intimidating, and deceptively quick. She is also mysterious; for below her decks lie technology so powerful and advanced that it has only been revealed to a chosen few. Attention-to-detail has also been paramount in her design, right down to the proud design on her hull proudly displaying a tapestry of rich African art; a union of Ndebele, Zulu and Xhosa design symbolising the flow of water.
